Currently in development is an electric version of the NOMAD, the very first prototype has been completed and ready to test. All the electrical components have been taken from an electric wheel barrow to power the latest edition to the NOMAD family.
This initial prototype of the NOMADe is to assess the basic design and functionality, as at present the design is too large and bulky. On the 11th of December 2023 at Blyth beach we are aiming to do a trial run (weather dependent), this is to determine that the frame can support heavier wheelchairs that can be in excess of 210kgs.
The steering box at the rear that was taken from the electric wheelbarrow takes up a lot of space, so we are looking into positioning it under the main frame so it is out of the way. The 2 front wheels at the moment are too wide (making it bulky), we are looking at moving them closer and underneath to the frame, this will enable the wheels to rotate 360 degrees and reduce the overall width of the NOMADe.
